About Milford Food 2 Kids

Mission: To feed local school children who have little or no
food resources during the weekend away from school.

Milford Food 2 Kids is an initiative of the First United Church of Christ, Milford, in collaboration with CT Food Bank, and in partnership with our schools and many caring individuals, civic organizations, communities of faith and groups in Milford.  We attend to the needs of local children who have little or no food during the weekend away from school.

Milford is not unique.  Food insecurity among children in CT hovers around %15.6. And Nation-wide, 12 million children experience food insecurity.

The school year 2016-17 saw the program grow from 26 students served in Winter/Spring of 2016 to service to over 160 students at 13 elementary, middle and high schools in Milford.

To expand the program to support the ongoing need throughout the Milford Community, we continued to seek sponsors for children in need in all of our schools. In 2017-2018, with your help, we extended support to 15 schools.

We are trying to build a sustainable program because the child who eats today is definitely going to be hungry tomorrow. We need the community to take on this mission with us so that we can reach our goal of sustainability in 2020-2021.

Our Vision for 2022-2023 is to break the cycle of food insecurity so that every young person thrives!
